In 2002 when I first became a licensed Realtor, things were very different than they are now.

I can remember mapping out my buyer tours with my physical map, going from page to page trying to figure out the best route. I remember standing over the fax machine waiting for an offer to come through, only to have to call the other agent to confirm the actual numbers because it didn’t come through clearly! I think back and then the purchase and sale agreements were about 9 pages, now they are over 38! And how could I forget, running all over town to get my clients’ signature for every response?

But by far and away the biggest change has been the price of real estate, along with commissions!

The ease with which you can list or sell a home now is as easy as sitting in front of your computer in your jammies! Technology has completely changed the real estate industry, and I personally love it!

I started Real Estate by You in 2014 when I realized that with the advances of technology, along with rising home sale prices, the consumer would put two and two together and refuse to pay outrageous commissions to sell their properties. I also realized that oftentimes sellers’ kind of like the idea of DIYing it, but would like to be in the local MLS, or they didn’t want to “have” to pay huge commissions.

I realized times were changing. Consumers needed more options available to them, and they definitely didn’t want to see huge chunks of THEIR equity going out in real estate commissions.

It took longer than I anticipated for consumers to “wake up” but now the sleeping giant has been awakened! The National Association of Realtors has been sued into the billions for price fixing, and new consumer lawsuits are happening by the day. Consumers are angry, and they should be.

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) settlement is an 'earthquake' for the real estate industry.
